Life Groups - a wonderful way to find fellowship ... an encouraging way to grow in your faith ... an exciting way to study God's word

Why should I join a Life Group?

I joined a Life Group which changed my thinking about what church was. I imagined it would just be a Bible study group, but when I got there I found a new group of people who really cared about who I was, where I'd been, and all that God was doing in me. - Steve

It can be difficult for people to build deep friendships when the whole church meets on a Sunday morning. Life Groups enable us to get to know one another better and to find support when we need it. They are a way to develop close relationships with a small number of people – with opportunities to encourage and pray for each other.

By caring for one another and praying together, people are encouraged and the whole church grows in its relationship with Jesus.

Whether you are brand new to the church or have been part of the family for a long time, Life Groups are a place to find support in busy and pressured lives. We would love you to join one.

What does the Bible say?

There are many instances in the Bible of Christians meeting in large crowds and in small groups. Indeed, Jesus regularly took his disciples aside from the large gatherings for times of fellowship and teaching. We take encouragement from the following passage in Hebrews.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:23-25

How do Life Groups work?

Some groups meet weekly, others run fortnightly, usually in people’s homes but there is one group which meets at the Dorford Centre. Each group chooses its own study topics and material, with support and suggestions from the leadership team. While there is an emphasis on prayer and bible study, there is also time and space to socialise and make friends. The groups will usually have social activities from time to time.
